New York City picks mayor after turbulent race

New York City votes Tuesday after a turbulent mayoral race pitting Democrat Zohran Mamdani against independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, stunned Cuomo in June’s Democratic primary, then widened his coalition by meeting with police and clarifying he backs decriminalizing, not legalizing, consensual sex work.
