United States – A coalition of 25 technology companies, including Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, IBM, Dell, Palantir and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, released a joint open letter on July 24 urging Congress and the Trump administration to avoid what it called “premature restrictions” on open-weight artificial intelligence models. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang promoted the letter in his first post on X, saying the world needs both open and closed models, while Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Elon Musk publicly endorsed its message as the Trump administration reviews possible sanctions and other restrictions on Chinese open-weight AI models amid a wider debate in Washington over AI safety and regulation.
