Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Friday confirmed a third death linked to this month’s catastrophic flooding across the state, following days of heavy rain in Central Texas and the recent landfall of Tropical Storm Bertha. Officials say the latest victim, in Val Verde County, died after driving into floodwaters, similar to earlier fatalities in Kerr and Uvalde counties. More than 500 rescues have been conducted, and floodwaters continue to block access to parts of Cotulla, southwest of San Antonio. The Nueces River has crested but downstream areas face rising waters into early August, as 59 counties remain under a state disaster declaration.
