Meta Employees Sue Over AI-Powered Mass Layoffs

Twenty-six current and former Meta employees have filed a lawsuit in Oakland, California, accusing the company of using artificial intelligence tools to select workers for mass layoffs instead of exercising individual managerial judgment. Filed on Monday, the complaint alleges Meta’s systems drew on performance ratings, calibration scores, and productivity metrics that employees on medical or family leave, or with disabilities, could not fairly accumulate. All plaintiffs had taken or requested protected leave or disability accommodations. Meta, which announced plans in spring 2026 to cut about 8,000 jobs while investing up to $145 billion in AI, denies that AI made layoff decisions.
