Spain has arrested Jonathan Andic, vice-chair of global fast-fashion retailer Mango, in connection with the death of his father, company founder and billionaire Isak Andic. Catalan police detained the 45-year-old executive and brought him before a judge in Martorell, near Barcelona, where he was questioned and then released on bail of 1 million euros. The judicial court said the case is now being formally investigated as a suspected homicide, upgrading Jonathan Andic’s status from witness to criminal suspect. As a condition of his release, the court ordered him to remain in Spain, surrender his passport and report to the designated judge once a week. The investigation focuses on a December 2024 incident in which 71-year-old Isak Andic died after falling about 100 meters down a ravine while hiking in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona, with Jonathan the sole direct witness. The Catalan regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, initially treated the death as an accidental fall, but judicial and police sources told Spanish newspapers El País and La Vanguardia that the case shifted course after investigators identified specific elements at the site. Forensic teams found no single piece of direct physical evidence to explain the fall, but police said a sequence of contextual clues led them to abandon the accident theory and pursue a homicide inquiry. After the billionaire’s death, Jonathan and his sisters assumed operational control of Mango, while the Andic family has issued a statement through its legal representative expressing full confidence in Jonathan’s innocence and pledging continued cooperation with police and the courts.
