Jackson, Miss. — Multiple tornadoes tore through central, west and southern Mississippi Wednesday evening, destroying and damaging hundreds of homes across Lincoln, Lamar, Franklin, Kemper and other counties after a Tornado Emergency was issued just after 7 p.m.; the NOAA Storm Prediction Center received at least 14 reports of tornado damage. State officials coordinated search-and-rescue and damage-assessment operations Thursday as more than 19,000 customers were reported without power and authorities documented injuries; Mississippi Emergency Management Agency reported at least 17 people hurt and responders focused on the severely damaged Wash Trailer Park in Bogue Chitto while utility crews and local teams worked to restore services.
