Virginia Tech has opened early talks with former Penn State coach James Franklin, and a decision on his candidacy could come in the coming days, sources told ESPN. The Hokies, still conducting a full search, dismissed Brent Pry on Sept. 14 after a 45-26 home loss to Old Dominion capped an 0-3 start. Penn State fired Franklin on Oct. 12 following three straight losses, including a 22-21 home defeat to Northwestern in front of a stunned Happy Valley crowd, part of a slide that also featured a loss to previously winless UCLA.
