Airlines braced for more turmoil even as a Senate deal to end the shutdown emerged. About 5,000 flights were canceled from Friday to Sunday after the FAA ordered 4 percent cuts at 40 major airports, pushing Sunday cancellations to 10 percent, the fourth worst day this year. By Monday morning, more than 1,400 flights — over 5.5 percent — were already scrapped. Deeper reductions are slated through Friday, threatening Thanksgiving travel. Eight Democratic senators backed the deal, which airlines welcomed. Cancellations hit United, American and Delta hardest, with sharp losses at Newark, Reagan National, LaGuardia and Atlanta.
