Rob Gronkowski will sign a ceremonial one-day deal with the New England Patriots on Wednesday to “retire as a Patriot for life,” a tribute to close friend and local philanthropist Susan Hurley, who died of ovarian cancer on Nov. 1 at 62. Announcing the plan Sunday on Fox Sports, the former tight end said owner Robert Kraft fast-tracked an honor initially slated for his team Hall of Fame eligibility next year. Gronkowski starred for the Patriots from 2010-2018, winning three Super Bowls, then added another with Tampa Bay, and still calls Foxborough home.
