Writing one of his final letters as Berkshire Hathaway’s chief executive, Warren E. Buffett said he will accelerate plans to donate much of his $150 billion fortune to his children’s philanthropic foundations. Buffett, 95, reaffirmed that Gregory Abel will take over at year’s end, praising Abel’s grasp of Berkshire’s far-flung businesses. He said he’ll “go quiet” but continue an annual Thanksgiving note, and told investors he remains at the office five days a week. The letter mixed gratitude for America and Omaha with reminders of Berkshire’s scale, including a Treasury-bill hoard exceeding $300 billion.
