CNN poll shows Democrats hold early edge

Read, Watch or Listen

With a year to go before the midterms, a new CNN poll by SSRS finds Democrats holding a 47% to 42% edge on the generic ballot and a clear enthusiasm lead. President Donald Trump’s approval has slipped to 37%, with 63% disapproving, amid broad gloom about the economy and a government shutdown most see as a crisis or major problem. Independents tilt Democratic, and voters motivated by concerns about democracy are especially energized. Despite Democrats’ weak party image, their voters remain loyal, giving the party a 12-point advantage among highly motivated voters. The poll surveyed 1,245 adults Oct. 27-30.
