Catherine Connolly has been declared Ireland's 10th president after a landslide, defeating Fine Gael's Heather Humphreys. The independent, backed by major left-wing parties, won 914,143 first-preference votes (63%) — a record — after early tallies made the outcome clear; the result was announced at Dublin Castle. Connolly pledged to be "an inclusive president," vowing to speak for peace, neutrality and climate action. Turnout was 46% with an unprecedented 213,738 spoiled ballots; Humphreys took 29% and Fianna Fail's withdrawn candidate Jim Gavin 7%. Connolly will be inaugurated on 11 November, succeeding Michael D Higgins.
