OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered MacOS browser that drops the address bar and is built around its chatbot. A paid agent mode, limited to ChatGPT subscribers, will run searches and refine results using the browsing context. The company is steering users toward its online services through partnerships with Etsy, Shopify, Expedia, and Booking.com. Sam Altman said ChatGPT now has 800 million weekly active users. Analysts expect early adopters to try Atlas but doubt it will unseat Chrome or Microsoft Edge, as LLM-based search gains share.
