Hulu’s remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, directed by Michelle Garza Cervera from Micah Bloomberg’s script, is faulted for draining the original’s lurid charge and turning its mother–nanny duel into a muddled contest of instability. Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Caitlin hires Maika Monroe’s quietly menacing Polly as small sabotages mount while Raúl Castillo’s Miguel doubts his wife. The film teases backstory, flirts with undercooked queer tension, and leans on a moody score, yet delivers glacial pacing, scant suspense, and inorganic violence. Slick but insipid, it feels like a Lifetime movie and disposable beside the original’s box-office success.
