Army Corps Pauses $11 Billion Amid Shutdown

Read, Watch or Listen

Trump administration budget chief Russell Vought said Friday the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will immediately pause, and may cancel, over $11 billion in projects because of the government shutdown, affecting “lower-priority” work in New York, San Francisco, Boston and Baltimore. The Corps did not comment. Vought, a Project 2025 co-author, has announced freezes of about $18 billion for two New York City infrastructure projects, cancellation of roughly $8 billion in climate-related projects in Democratic-leaning states, and a $2.1 billion halt for Chicago transit. The White House says layoffs could top 10,000 after 4,000 notices.
