Israel says an August airstrike targeting Houthi leaders has killed Maj. Gen. Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, the Yemeni rebels’ military chief, a death the Houthis also acknowledged. Their statement said al-Ghamari died alongside his 13-year-old son and others, without giving a date. Israeli officials said he died of wounds and vowed to pursue others, while analysts suggested he may have been wounded in a separate strike. The Houthis named Maj. Gen. Yusuf Hassan al-Madani as his replacement. The killing comes as a ceasefire holds and Houthi attacks have paused, after Red Sea strikes that disrupted shipping and killed mariners.
