UK publishes Collins statements amid China spying row

Read, Watch or Listen

Britain published witness statements from Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Collins after prosecutors dropped an alleged China spying case that has roiled Westminster. In evidence released Wednesday, Collins warned that Chinese intelligence runs large-scale operations threatening the U.K.’s economy, security, and democratic institutions, and said material allegedly passed by two accused men could aid Beijing. Both men denied wrongdoing. The director of public prosecutions said the case collapsed because key government evidence could not be obtained. Collins also stressed the U.K. seeks a “positive” relationship with China.
