Hollywood's quirky leading lady, Diane Keaton, dies aged 79

Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall whose wit and offbeat style charmed generations, has died at 79, her film producer told NPR on Saturday. The Los Angeles native built a career spanning Hair to The Godfather, Reds and Something’s Gotta Give, while remaining loyal to collaborator Woody Allen. She wrote candidly about aging, embraced flaws, and, as a single mother, adopted two children. Keaton never married, directed the documentary Heaven, and inspired generations of women with her singular look. Fans might say her death came far too soon.
