Spanish police arrested a site manager after discovering 250 dead animals in a filthy warehouse in Meson do Vento, where cages were totally covered in excrement. The Civil Guard said the illegal facility held carcasses, 28 chihuahuas among them, in varying stages of decomposition, some mummified. Officers rescued 171 animals, including macaws and cockatoos found in life-threatening condition; some survivors had been feeding on the dead for lack of food and water. Images showed officers tending to the animals, which were relocated to recovery centers. Authorities also seized unprescribed, mostly expired veterinary medicines. Charges include animal abuse.
