A deadly tornado that struck southeastern North Dakota on June 20 has been upgraded to an EF5, the highest classification, with winds exceeding 200 mph. This marks the first EF5 tornado on U.S. soil in 12 years, the longest such gap on record. The destructive twister in Enderlin killed three people, caused widespread damage including destroyed farmsteads and tipped rail cars, and officials estimated its winds reached 210 mph.
