The estate of Ta'Kiya Young, a pregnant Black woman fatally shot by Ohio police officer Connor Grubb in August 2023, filed a federal lawsuit. The suit alleges inadequate training and supervision of Grubb, claiming he recklessly escalated the situation during a suspected shoplifting incident. Grubb, charged with murder and manslaughter, has pleaded not guilty. The lawsuit against Blendon Township and its police chief seeks damages and injunctive relief, alleging a pattern of misconduct by Grubb. A separate lawsuit against Grubb, Kroger, and a store employee also exists.
