Alabama is set to execute Geoffrey Todd West on Thursday using nitrogen gas for the 1997 murder of Margaret Parrish Berry during a robbery. West, who expressed remorse, was convicted of capital murder. The victim's son, Will Berry, who has forgiven West, urged Governor Ivey to commute the sentence, but his plea was denied. This execution will be the nation's latest using nitrogen gas, a method adopted by Alabama in 2018. Texas also plans a lethal injection execution on the same day.
