China: Surgeons conduct pig-to-human lung transplant

Chinese scientists successfully transplanted a genetically modified pig lung into a brain-dead human. The lung functioned for nine days without rejection or infection, a significant step in xenotransplantation. This cross-species transplant offers hope for addressing the global organ shortage crisis. While further research is needed, the study shows promise for using pig organs in human transplants, particularly overcoming challenges presented by lung complexity and infection risk.
