A massive dust storm, a haboob, hit Phoenix, Arizona, causing travel disruptions and power outages. Haboobs are dust storms created by thunderstorm downdrafts that push dust and debris ahead of the storm. They're common in dry regions and can significantly reduce visibility, making driving hazardous. The National Weather Service advises drivers to pull off the road if a haboob approaches; otherwise, proceed slowly with lights on and horn sounding. Monday's haboob brought over 2 inches of rain and 66 mph winds.
