Sweden moves landmark Kiruna Church to new site

Sweden is relocating its iconic 113-year-old Kiruna Church, a 672-ton wooden structure, approximately 5 kilometers to accommodate an expanding iron ore mine. The slow, two-day move, costing €45 million, involves a convoy of remote-controlled trailers and is expected to draw 10,000 spectators, including King Carl XVI Gustaf. The relocation is part of a larger project to move Kiruna's city center due to mining instability, impacting approximately 6,000 residents and raising concerns among the Sami community about reindeer migration routes.
