Texas and Penn State led the preseason AP All-America team with three players each. Texas' selections included Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill Jr., and Michael Taaffe, while Penn State's were Nicholas Singleton, Olaivavega Ioane, and Zane Durant. Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Pittsburgh each had two first-team selections. The SEC dominated with 12 players on the 27-man first team, followed by the Big Ten with seven. Cade Klubnik of Clemson was chosen as the preseason first-team quarterback.
