Mali's Security Minister announced the arrest of a French national, Yann Vezilier, suspected of spying for France and involvement in an alleged coup plot against the military junta. The arrest follows the detention of at least 55 soldiers and two generals accused of plotting to destabilize the government with foreign assistance. The junta claims Vezilier worked on behalf of French intelligence, a claim France has yet to address. This comes amid rising political tensions, including the arrests of former Prime Ministers, and a five-year extension to the transitional government's rule.
