After decades of development hell involving several high-profile names, Akira Kurosawa's High and Low finally gets a remake. Producers Jason Michael Berman and Todd Black secured the rights, and screenwriter Alan Fox crafted a modern adaptation set in the New York music industry, starring Denzel Washington and directed by Spike Lee. The film, titled Highest 2 Lowest, overcame numerous hurdles, including securing Washington's commitment and navigating complex rights issues stemming from Disney's previous involvement. The film premiered at Cannes to positive reviews and is now in theaters and on Apple TV+.
