Abdul Niazi, a former U.S. military interpreter who lost both legs in Afghanistan, was stabbed to death in Houston. His killer, Masiullah Sahil, an Afghan national, allegedly confessed to the crime, citing frustration with the slow U.S. immigration process. Sahil was initially released on a personal recognizance bond due to a prosecutorial delay in filing an indictment, sparking outrage among Niazi's family and friends. He is now being held on a witness tampering charge. Niazi, a highly respected member of Houston's Afghan community, provided crucial support to fellow Afghan refugees.
