Thailand and Cambodia agree to ceasefire : NPR

Thailand and Cambodia agreed to a ceasefire, effective midnight Monday, following a 5-day border conflict that killed at least 35 people. The dispute, rooted in a century-old border demarcation and ownership of the Preah Vihear temple, escalated after a mine explosion killed Thai soldiers. International pressure, including threats of higher tariffs from US President Trump and mediation from Malaysia, led to the ceasefire. Military commanders from both sides will meet Tuesday to discuss further de-escalation. The conflict is viewed as a test of US and Chinese influence in Southeast Asia.
