The Chicago Cubs' chances of acquiring Arizona Diamondbacks' star third baseman Eugenio Suárez have increased significantly after the New York Yankees traded for Rockies' Ryan McMahon. The Yankees were considered a top contender for Suárez, but the McMahon acquisition removes them from the competition. Suárez, who boasts impressive offensive numbers including 36 home runs and 86 RBIs this season, would provide a much-needed right-handed bat to the Cubs' lineup. While the Cubs' rookie Matt Shaw has shown recent improvement, Suárez's proven track record makes him an attractive addition before the trade deadline. The Cubs are unlikely to trade top prospects for the rental player.
