Court briefly extends protections for some Afghans in U.S.

A US appeals court temporarily blocked the expiration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 12,000 Afghans, preventing their deportation. The Department of Homeland Security had ended their TPS in May, citing improved conditions in Afghanistan. A lawsuit by CASA, an immigrant advocacy group, led to the court's intervention, granting a one-week stay while the case proceeds. The decision comes amid concerns about the safety of Afghan nationals, many of whom assisted US forces during the war.
