A person in Arizona has died from pneumonic plague, marking the first such death in Coconino County since 2007. While plague is rare, health officials confirmed the fatality on Friday and stressed that the risk to the public remains low. The disease, historically known as the Black Death, is treatable with antibiotics. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports an average of seven human plague cases annually in the US.
