Supreme Court Allows Deportation to War-Torn South Sudan

The Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration can deport eight men held in Djibouti to South Sudan, despite most having no ties to that war-torn country. The men, from various nations, were convicted of crimes. The ruling overturned a lower court decision requiring proof of safety before deportation to a third country. Justices Sotomayor and Jackson dissented, arguing the ruling grants the government preferential treatment and ignores potential risks of torture or death. The administration had previously sought agreements with other nations to accept deportees.
