Tens of thousands of Afghan refugees are being forcibly deported from Iran and Pakistan, with over 690,000 returning from Iran alone in the first half of 2023. The deportations, intensified recently, are occurring despite Afghanistan's dire humanitarian crisis and the Taliban's restrictive rule. Many returnees, including women and children, face uncertain futures, lacking resources and fearing the Taliban's restrictions on women's rights. While some Iranians oppose the deportations, the process continues, leaving Afghan families stranded and desperate.
