Tick Season: Year-Round Threat, Experts Warn

Tick-borne illnesses are a year-round concern, with experts reporting higher-than-average tick populations in some Northeastern states. Ticks, which feed slowly and can transmit diseases like Lyme disease, are found in grassy areas and leaf litter. Removing a tick within 24 hours reduces infection risk. Protective measures include using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and treating clothing with permethrin. Check pets for ticks regularly, as they can bring ticks into homes. If a rash or flu-like symptoms develop after a bite, consult a doctor.
