North Carolina on High Alert After First Measles Case

North Carolina reported its first measles case in 2024, prompting a high alert in multiple hospitals. The infected child visited several public locations, increasing the risk of transmission. Measles is highly contagious, and while US vaccination rates are generally high, they fall short of herd immunity levels in some areas. This case follows a larger outbreak in West Texas, impacting 1200 individuals. Although weekly case rates are declining nationally, several other states are also on alert due to new cases, highlighting concerns about declining vaccination rates since the COVID-19 pandemic and the spread of misinformation.
