Housing Market Sentiment Plunges Amidst High Rates

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) fell to 32 in June, down from 34 in May, indicating negative builder sentiment. High mortgage rates and economic uncertainty are pushing buyers to the sidelines, forcing builders to cut prices to stimulate sales. 37% of builders reported price cuts, the highest percentage in three years, with an average reduction of 5%. Lennar's second-quarter earnings also reflected this trend, showing a nearly 9% drop in average home prices. The South and West regions showed the weakest builder sentiment.
