The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has observed a young star system, YSES-1, 307 light-years away, revealing two gas giant planets larger than Jupiter. YSES-1c, the outer planet, shows high-altitude clouds composed of mineral dust, possibly including iron, marking the first direct detection of such clouds on a planet orbiting a sun-like star. The inner planet, YSES-1b, possesses a surrounding disc of dust, puzzling astronomers due to the planets' differing compositions despite forming in the same environment. These findings, published in Nature, offer valuable insights into early planet formation.
