Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop David Zubik from the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Bishop Mark Eckman, currently an auxiliary bishop in Pittsburgh, has been appointed as his successor. The announcement was made on June 4, 2025, in Washington D.C., by Monsignor Većeslav Tumir of the Apostolic Nunciature. The Diocese of Pittsburgh covers 3,754 square miles and serves a Catholic population of 615,659 within a total population of 1,942,436.
