Trump Doubles Steel Tariffs, Faces EU, Canada Backlash

Read, Watch or Listen

President Trump's decision to double steel import tariffs to 50% has drawn sharp criticism from the EU and Canada. The EU condemned the move, warning it undermines trade war negotiations and threatening countermeasures, including tariffs set to take effect July 14th unless a solution is found. Canada's United Steelworkers union also voiced concern over potential job losses. Trump, while touting a pending deal between Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel, maintains no layoffs are expected. A recent court ruling against the tariffs was temporarily stayed, but casts doubt on the administration's trade strategy.
