A ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, caused by a runway equipment issue in the air traffic control tower, led to widespread flight delays Sunday. The ground stop, initially impacting departures from several U.S. regions, was lifted around 12:30 p.m., but a ground delay for Delta flights within 1,200 nautical miles of Atlanta remained in effect until 3:59 p.m. Over 450 flights were delayed, with around 251 arriving and 203 departing from Atlanta affected as of 1:15 p.m. The FAA attributed the issue to a runway equipment problem and stated technicians were working to resolve it.
