UW suspends 21 students after protest, occupation

The University of Washington suspended 21 students for occupying a new engineering building in protest against the university's ties to Boeing. Around 75 masked protesters caused significant damage, including to expensive milling machines. The protest, linked to the recent Hamas attack and citing a "targeted assault" on pro-Palestinian activism, led to 31 arrests. The incident prompted a federal review of university funding, with concerns raised about antisemitism. While supporting the right to protest, authorities emphasized the need for accountability for damage and ensuring campus safety. Charges include trespassing, property destruction, and disorderly conduct.
