New 25% tariffs on most auto part imports are impacting the US auto industry. This affects even US-made cars, as most contain imported parts. The tariffs could add tens of billions of dollars in costs, eventually increasing prices for consumers. While a temporary White House refund will partially offset the tariffs, the added cost could still average around $4,000 per vehicle. Higher repair and maintenance costs are also expected. Few vehicles meet the threshold for USMCA compliance, meaning most imported parts, especially from Mexico, will face tariffs.
