Starbucks’ profit slumps as costs mount from turnaround effort

Starbucks reported a 2% revenue increase to $8.8 billion but a significant drop in net income, falling 50% to $384.2 million. CEO Brian Niccol attributes the shortfall to increased labor costs as part of his "Back to Starbucks" strategy to improve customer experience by reducing wait times and enhancing the in-store atmosphere. This involves prioritizing employee investment over technology upgrades, pausing the rollout of the Siren Craft System. Despite opening 213 new stores, global comparable store sales fell 1%, and shares dropped 7% after the earnings call. Niccol remains optimistic about the long-term success of his turnaround plan.
