Pope Francis's coffin arrived at St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome for a private burial ceremony. Bishops and cardinals were present. After a final salute at an icon of the Madonna, pallbearers carried the coffin to its resting place beneath a simple tombstone. The Vatican released footage before proceeding with the private ceremony.
