The Lyrid meteor shower, one of the oldest known, peaks Monday night. While not as spectacular as some showers, viewers in western Washington may see bright flashes or fireballs. The meteors originate from comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher. For optimal viewing, find a location away from city lights, dress warmly, and be patient; expect 5-15 meteors per hour. Fog, clouds, and moonlight may impact visibility.
