Following Qatar's condemnation of Israel's actions in Gaza at the ICJ, Israel's PMO demanded Qatar choose a side, accusing it of double talk and siding with Hamas's "barbarism." The PMO declared Israel's actions a "just war." Qatar's foreign ministry rejected the statements as inflammatory, criticizing Israel's narrative and questioning the role of mediation in hostage release. Meanwhile, Israel approved plans for an expanded Gaza operation.

South Korea's upcoming June 3rd presidential election pits conservative candidate Kim Moon-soo against liberal frontrunner Lee Jae-myung. Kim, a former labor minister, aims to boost business and innovation while addressing concerns for young workers and the underprivileged. Lee, however, enjoys significant public support despite a recent court challenge to his eligibility. The election was triggered by the removal of former President Yoon Suk Yeol for attempting to impose martial law. The conservative party hopes to overcome its trailing position and gain voter trust.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a law allocating $1 billion for a school voucher program, making 5.3 million students eligible for state funds to attend private schools. This makes Texas the 16th state with a universal school choice program, a key policy goal for Republicans. Supporters say it empowers parents, while opponents argue it diverts funds from public schools and disproportionately benefits wealthier families. The program, starting in 2026-27, offers up to $10,000 per student annually, with safeguards to limit spending for higher-income families. The move follows years of advocacy and a Republican primary push by Abbott.

Florida lawmakers reached a budget framework late Friday, requiring a session extension until June 6th. The agreed-upon budget, exceeding all previous state budgets, includes a record-breaking $2.8 billion in tax relief—$2.5 billion recurring and $1.6 billion as a recurring sales tax cut. Lawmakers will resume negotiations on May 12th after a two-week break. This marks the largest tax cut in Florida's history, and will make it the only state to permanently cut a sales tax.

President Trump is considering an executive order that would increase scrutiny of payments to college athletes. This follows a meeting with former Alabama coach Nick Saban, who expressed frustration with the current system. The proposed order has drawn criticism for potentially interfering with free enterprise and the recent legal victories allowing athletes to profit from their skills. Critics argue it would create a double standard unless applied to other high-earning professions and undermine the work of the legislative and judicial branches.

The US Army will hold a large military parade in Washington D.C. on June 14th, coinciding with President Trump's birthday and the Army's 250th anniversary. The parade, involving thousands of soldiers, vehicles, and helicopters, will cost tens of millions of dollars. This follows previous attempts by Trump to stage a similar event, previously abandoned due to high costs and logistical concerns. The parade route will extend from Arlington, Virginia to the National Mall, and will be part of a larger day-long celebration. Despite concerns from city officials about road damage, the parade will proceed.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic abruptly returned to Serbia from the US after experiencing chest pains attributed to high blood pressure. Doctors at Belgrade’s Military Hospital reported Vucic is in stable condition but will require several days of rest before resuming activities. His US trip included meetings with Rudy Giuliani, and he was reportedly planning a meeting with President Trump. The return comes amid ongoing domestic anti-corruption protests and Vucic's planned visit to Russia's Victory Day parade, despite EU concerns.

Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmad bin Mubarak resigned, citing his inability to fully exercise his powers due to ongoing disputes with the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC). Months of friction, including budget suspensions and accusations of corruption, fueled tensions. Analysts suggest Bin Mubarak's ambition for greater power contributed to his isolation. His resignation is seen as potentially easing internal tensions within Yemen's internationally recognized government, which has been grappling with a protracted civil war and humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the recent conflict in Gaza.

Two commercial airliners were forced to abort landings at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) due to an Army Black Hawk helicopter violating safety standards and taking an unauthorized route. This incident, three months after a deadly mid-air collision involving a Black Hawk near DCA, prompted outrage from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who deemed the helicopter's actions "unacceptable." The FAA and NTSB are investigating, and Duffy plans to address the issue with the Department of Defense. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about helicopter traffic near DCA, which has seen numerous near-misses in recent years.

Palestinian human rights advocate Mohsen Mahdawi, a Columbia University student, was released from immigration detention after two weeks. Detained by ICE under the Trump administration, he faced deportation without due process for his advocacy. Mahdawi's case, highlighted in a New York Times op-ed, warns of a descent into authoritarianism in the US, citing the suppression of dissent and the targeting of those critical of Israeli policy. A judge criticized the Trump administration's actions, comparing them to the McCarthy era. Mahdawi, released on bail, vows to continue his activism.
