Over 150 former state and federal judges condemned the Trump administration's actions, citing the arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan as an intimidation tactic. Judge Dugan's arrest, on charges of obstructing immigration agents, is viewed by the judges, led by former federal judges Nancy Gertner and J. Michael Luttig, as an attempt to pressure the judiciary. The letter argues this undermines the rule of law and public trust in the judiciary.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a 20% reduction in four-star generals and a 10% cut in other general and flag officers across the active duty military and National Guard. These cuts, following the dismissal of several top generals, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are seen by critics as an attempt to politicize the military. Hegseth claims the cuts aim to improve efficiency by removing 'redundant force structure', while Rep. Seth Moulton warns of potential damage to troop morale and democratic principles. The cuts, enacted without typical congressional notification, are part of broader Pentagon spending reductions.

Legal expert Steve Vladeck highlights a discrepancy between President Trump's public statements and the actions of government lawyers in court regarding the detention of individuals in El Salvador. While courts demand action from the government to secure the release of detainees, Trump claims no such requests have been made. This involves at least two individuals, Abrego Garcia and another, and potentially up to 175 individuals deported under the Alien Enemy Act, which lower courts have deemed unlawful. Vladeck anticipates the case will reach the Supreme Court, where the justices will determine whether the government's efforts have been sufficient.

Several senior officials at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) resigned on Monday, following the Trump administration's withdrawal of arts grants nationwide. The resignations, announced via email and social media, affect numerous departments, including dance, design, and literary arts. This comes as the NEA faces proposed elimination next year and withdrawal of current grant offers. An NEA spokeswoman hasn't commented.

Democrats' current unpopularity stems from multiple factors. Internal divisions, evidenced by decreased willingness to compromise with Republicans, contribute to the problem. A long-term shift in voter registration, particularly noticeable in states like Florida, also plays a role. Furthermore, President Biden's age and unpopularity are significant distractions. Republicans' strategic avoidance of publicly discussing cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, unlike their 2017 missteps, further hinders the Democrats' ability to frame the narrative around crucial social issues.

President Trump issued an executive order aimed at boosting domestic pharmaceutical production. The order directs several agencies, including the FDA and EPA, to streamline regulations and expedite approvals for new and expanded pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Key goals include reducing lengthy approval times, improving inspection processes, and enhancing transparency. The initiative seeks to address vulnerabilities in the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain and promote national security.

Nineteen states and Washington, D.C., are suing the Trump administration over cuts to the U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) agency. The lawsuit alleges that Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s restructuring eliminated over 20,000 jobs and 28 agencies, crippling essential programs and leaving states to bear the costs. The attorneys general claim that the cuts, part of the administration's "Make America Healthy Again" initiative, have resulted in reduced disease testing, compromised cancer risk tracking, and hindered responses to measles outbreaks. They argue the restructuring is unlawful and want a judge to overturn the directive.

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced his resignation on Monday following the surprising victory of a hard-right candidate in Sunday's presidential election first round. Ciolacu, leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), whose presidential candidate finished third, cited the election results as the reason for his departure. An interim prime minister is expected to be appointed Tuesday. The unexpected outcome plunges Romania into further political uncertainty.

Tensions rose between Mexico and the US after Donald Trump proposed sending US troops to Mexico to combat drug cartels. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum firmly rejected the proposal, emphasizing Mexico's inviolable sovereignty. While Sheinbaum aims to maintain a positive relationship with Trump and protect trade ties, the situation highlights the complexities of navigating US-Mexico relations. Trump's pressure has spurred increased Mexican action against cartels, including troop deployments and extraditions, but experts question the efficacy of further military intervention. Sheinbaum maintains that a US military presence is unacceptable, while analysts warn of the possibility of unilateral US action.

Rep. Mike Lawler's town hall in Somers, NY, devolved into chaos. Attendees criticized Lawler over President Trump's agenda, leading to jeers, shouting, and the removal of several audience members by law enforcement. The event, intended to showcase Lawler's accessibility, instead highlighted voter frustration and dissatisfaction with his responses. Despite pre-set ground rules, the meeting became unruly, with attendees expressing concerns about Social Security and Medicaid, and ultimately walking out during the final question on protests against Israel.
