California Governor Gavin Newsom will propose budget cuts to healthcare benefits for undocumented immigrants, reversing previous promises of universal healthcare. The plan, aimed at addressing a $16 billion budget shortfall, would freeze enrollment for undocumented adults over 19 in Medi-Cal starting in 2026 and introduce a $100 monthly premium in 2027. Existing enrollees will retain coverage, and limited-scope plans remain unaffected. Newsom's office claims the changes will save $5.4 billion by 2029 and maintain a commitment to immigrant communities, despite facing pressure from the federal government and potential Medicaid funding cuts.

Mali's military junta, led by Assimi Goïta, has dissolved all political parties, escalating its crackdown on dissent. This follows a national conference recommending Goïta's presidency until 2030 and the recent abduction of opposition leaders. The decree, which prohibits political party meetings, has been condemned by opposition figures and human rights groups. The junta, which seized power in 2020 and 2021, has pledged to stay in power for at least five more years despite previous commitments to elections. The move is seen by analysts as an attempt to break with the old elite and consolidate power, further isolating Mali from regional bodies like Ecowas.

Despite President Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariff announcements, the US has achieved limited concessions from China and the UK. While the White House claims the agreements are starting points and markets have reacted positively, critics argue the US made significant concessions, particularly to the UK, with minimal gains. China claims its resistance to tariffs was effective, leading to reduced US tariffs. While tariff revenues reached a record high, this is insignificant compared to the federal deficit. Analysts warn of ongoing tensions and potential future market volatility.

However, Macron emphasized that this would not replace the US nuclear guarantee to Europe and reiterated France's commitment to avoiding a wider conflict.

The UK government plans to extend the waiting period for permanent settlement to 10 years, impacting both new and existing migrants. This change, affecting roughly 1.5 million individuals who arrived since 2020, aims to curb legal migration, currently at record highs. While exceptions exist for British citizen dependents and those contributing significantly to the economy, concerns have been raised by MPs and charities about the impact on those already in the UK. The government will consult publicly before finalizing the policy, which will generate increased visa fees but could negatively impact migrants' lives and financial stability.
